Johan Nieuwenhuize

Bio

Johan Nieuwenhuize (Oost-Souburg, the Netherlands, 1980) is a Dutch photographer, artist and curator.

In 2006 he received his Bachelor degree in photography from the Royal Academy of Arts, The Hague. He was granted several working grants by Stroom Den Haag and Mondriaan Fund ever since. From August 2011 until March 2015 he was curator and director of Platform57, a platform for site specific contemporary art, which he also initiated.

His work has been shown at the Three Shadows Photography Art Centre in Beijing, De Kabinetten van De Vleeshal in Middelburg, Street Level Photoworks in Glasgow and Fotomuseum Den Haag.
Since 2015 he collaborates with Japanese photographer Shinji Otan. OTANI NIEUWENHUIZE had it’s museum debut at the Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine Museum in Dazaifu, Japan in 2016. In 2017 Nieuwenhuize was commissioned by NTjong and het Nationale Theater to develop a large audio visual installation work; Eerst zien dan geloven.

His work has been published in NRC M Magazine, YVI Magazine, de Volkskrant and IMA Magazine. In November 2011 he self-published MADE IN CHINA, his second book IMG_ was published by Kehrer Verlag in April 2014. In 2016 Tique art publications issued OTANI NIEUWENHUIZE.
